Project Lead

The Project Lead will play a pivotal role in the execution of a multi-component intervention aimed at mitigating the mental health impacts of climate change in British Columbia. This position involves coordinating activities that improve knowledge, skills, and capacity for health-promoting and trauma-informed climate policy, communication, education, and resilience building. The successful candidate will work closely with Indigenous communities, government bodies, academic institutions, and community partners to develop and implement interventions designed to support individuals experiencing climate-related distress and enhance mental health resilience.

Social Media and Communications Volunteer

The Mental Health and Climate Change Alliance is seeking a motivated and creative Social Media and Communications Intern to join our team as a volunteer. This intern will play a key role in expanding our digital presence and engaging our community by managing our LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Email Newsletter. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing our social media strategy in close collaboration with the MHCCA programming team to ensure that vital information reaches our audience effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy to increase our visibility, engagement, and influence across various platforms.

  • Manage daily social media activities including content creation, posting, and community interaction.

  • Collaborate with the programming team to promote upcoming events, initiatives, and campaigns.

  • Create engaging multimedia content (graphics, videos, and articles).

  • Monitor, analyze, and report on performance metrics to optimize strategies.

  • Manage and grow our email newsletter subscriber list, including the design and distribution of regular updates.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a degree in Communication, Marketing, Environmental Studies, Psychology, or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and their best practices.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Creative thinker with attention to detail.

  • Passionate about mental health and environmental issues.

Commitment: This is a part-time, unpaid internship suitable for students seeking academic credit. The expected commitment is 5 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months.

Graphic Designer

We’re seeking a talented and creative Graphic Designer Volunteer to enhance our visual and digital media. This volunteer will assist in designing engaging content for our social media platforms, website, and printed materials such as reports and promotional outputs. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for design and a passion for using their skills to advance mental health and environmental advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and produce visual content for various media including social media posts, reports, newsletters, and the MHCCA website.

  • Work closely with the communications team to translate messaging concepts into graphics and layouts that effectively communicate and engage our audience.

  • Ensure consistent branding across all digital and printed materials.

  • Assist in the design and layout of reports and other publications.

  • Provide creative input for campaign strategies and promotional events.

  • Keep abreast of the latest design trends and tools that could enhance our visual and media strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or similar tools.

  • A portfolio demonstrating a range of skills including graphic design, typography, and layout.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with the communications and programming teams.

  • A background in environmental or mental health advocacy is a plus, but not required.

Climate Resilience Group Facilitator

We’re seeking an empathetic and dynamic volunteer to serve as a Climate Resilience Group Facilitator. This role involves leading groups similar to climate cafes or climate circles, focusing on the emotional aspects of climate change. The facilitator will guide discussions, provide support, and help participants explore and express their feelings about climate impacts in a constructive and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate regular meetings for climate resilience groups, creating a safe and open space for participants to share and explore their emotions related to climate change.

  • Develop session agendas that encourage participation and meaningful dialogue, using guided questions, activities, and discussion prompts.

  • Monitor the group dynamics and provide emotional support and conflict resolution as needed.

  • Collaborate with mental health professionals and climate experts to gather resources and information to support group discussions.

  • Maintain records of group sessions and provide feedback on the effectiveness of discussion strategies.

  • Promote the climate resilience groups to expand participation and reach a diverse audience.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in group facilitation, counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with and support individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Knowledgeable about climate change and its psychological impacts.

  • Ability to handle sensitive topics with empathy and discretion.

  • Commitment to fostering a non-judgmental, inclusive, and supportive group environment.

Commitment: This volunteer position requires a commitment of 3-5 hours per week, including preparation, facilitation, and follow-up activities. The expected duration of the role is at least 6 months to ensure continuity for the group members.
