Climate of Emotions

Program & Host Organization

Climate of Emotions is an initiative of Six Seconds, a global not-for-profit organization focused on emotional intelligence. The program supports youth and adults in developing emotional skills to navigate climate distress and sustain meaningful engagement in climate action.

Location & Scope

The initiative operates internationally, with virtual sessions accessible worldwide and in-person events held at venues such as NYC Climate Week. Its activities reach participants across global regions through online conferences, trainings, and workshops.

Who It Serves

Climate of Emotions serves intergenerational groups, including youth aged 18 to 30, adults involved in climate advocacy, and others seeking support for climate-related emotional challenges. It partners with organizations in the Global South to increase access for marginalized communities.

Climate & Mental Health Focus

The initiative addresses emotional burdens common among climate-engaged individuals, including anxiety, isolation, powerlessness, and burnout. It responds to the growing climate mental health crisis, particularly among activists facing chronic pressure and exposure to escalating climate impacts.

Activities & Format

Activities are delivered in a hybrid format, with most participants attending one-time events. Sessions range from 1.5-hour virtual gatherings to three-hour in-person workshops, as well as multi-month training programs that culminate in a multi-day conference. All events integrate facilitated dialogue, reflective exercises, creative practices, and emotional intelligence tools to support resilience and sustained leadership.

Inclusion & Accessibility

The program promotes inclusion by partnering with organizations serving communities in the Global South. No additional accessibility details were provided.

Outcomes & Evidence

Medium-term outcomes include applying emotional insights to leadership work and maintaining COE-based resilience tools. Long-term goals include a global network of emotionally skilled climate leaders. Evaluation includes quantitative surveys, climate emotion inventories, interviews, and reflective statements.
