Card Collection/Clustering Activity
The Card Collection/Clustering Activity is an inclusive and interactive session designed to gather and organize a wide range of ideas from Climate Resilience Groups. Suitable for medium to large groups, this 30-45 minute activity utilizes cards or post-it notes for participants to write down their thoughts on climate resilience, such as personal actions, community initiatives, or coping strategies. These cards are then read aloud by a facilitator to maintain equality and anonymity, followed by a collaborative categorization on a wall or board. This visual clustering helps participants identify common themes and understand the diversity of perspectives within the group. The session concludes with a discussion on these themes, offering insights into collective priorities and potential areas for action. This activity is particularly effective in ensuring all voices are heard and facilitates a deep, shared understanding of group sentiments and ideas on enhancing climate resilience.
Steps:
Distribute Materials: Provide each participant with cards or post-it notes and pens or markers.
Idea Generation: Participants write down their thoughts or ideas related to climate resilience, such as personal actions to mitigate climate impact, community initiatives, or emotional coping strategies.
Collection and Reading: Collect all cards. A facilitator reads each idea aloud to ensure all voices are heard equally and to maintain anonymity if desired.
Categorization on the Wall: Place the read cards on a wall or board. Group members then collaboratively categorize the ideas into clusters. Adjust the categories as new themes emerge during the clustering process.
Discussion and Reflection: Once all cards are categorized, guide the group in a discussion about the emerging themes. This can help participants see the collective perspective and range of ideas within the group.

Encourage creativity and honesty in the ideas shared.
Facilitate the clustering in a way that promotes collaboration and respect for all contributions.
Be prepared to manage a large volume of information and help the group focus on forming coherent categories.
